FRC defensive wizard Gee, SBCC's Collins are CCCWVCA State Players of Week #6
Feather River College libero Katherine Gee and Santa Barbara City College opposite Heidi Collins were selected as CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #6.
Gee, a 5-foot-5 sophomore talent out of Lakewood High in Long Beach, currently is second in the state in overall digs with 353 (5.35 per set) and her 41 service aces are third in that statistical category. She collected 82 digs in three 5-set matches on Sept. 22-23, including a season-high 32 in a win over Solano while passing at a 2.5 rating.
Against top-ranked San Joaquin Delta in a hard-fought defeat, Gee recorded 27 digs, passed at 2.4, and twirled four aces. As a freshman, she played on a state champion Golden Eagles team in 2022.
Collins, a 5-11, sophomore hitter from Burroughs High in Burbank, was a machine in a 4-set win over LA Mission as she floored 18 kills in just 25 attempts with one error for an off-the-charts .680 hitting performance. Then she scored 15 kills in SBCC's 5-set upset over Moorpark. She added four block assists in the two matches.
Collins leads the Vaqueros in total points and kills this season.
