Tigers win on and off the track
RIVERSIDE - Riverside City College men's track and field not only won the 3C2A State Championship this past spring, the Tigers also put in work in the classroom and finished with a 3.14 team GPA for the 2024-25 academic year.
Eighty-three Tigers combined to boast the program's highest team GPA while winning a state title under head men's track and field coach Jim McCarron. Sophomore Kailil O'Brien was also named the RCC Student of the Year.
"I think Jaclyn Geiger and Loren Overbo in the Athletic Learning Center, everybody in the Athletic administration, the track and field coaches, and all the professors have worked so hard to help our students academically," said McCarron. "Those in the Math Lab, Writing Lab, and Library gave invaluable help tutoring our student-athletes."
McCarron has seen nine of his programs win the State Championship and 30 win conference championships during his time at RCC. Still, McCarron thinks "having 83 student-athletes earn a combined 3.14 GPA ranks right there at the top."
