MSJC Wins Seventh Straight, Springer Earns 300th
The MSJC men's basketball team pulled away in the final 10 minutes on Wednesday night to win at Mira Costa 80-58 earning head coach Patrick Springer his 300th career victory.
The Eagles started out strong and pulled ahead 40-27 at the half behind some strong play off the bench from Danny Hopkins, Sam Williams and Mark Ware. In the second half Mira Costa tried to keep it close as they got within 7 with 10:30 left to play in the game at 52-45. From that point on however Dwayne Benjamin and Dajuan Smith took over offensively and the Eagles held Mira Costa to just 13 points over the final 10 minutes to pull away.
Benjamin finished the night with a game high 22 points while Smith had 21. Hopkins ended his night with 8 points off the bench and Williams had 6 all in the first half. The win improves MSJC to 13-3 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
Springer's 300th win comes in his 15th season as a California Community College head coach. Springer spent three seasons at College of the Desert and one at City College of San Francisco before taking over the head spot at MSJC. 230 of Coach Springer's wins have come at Mt. San Jacinto.
The Eagles return to action on Friday when they host Mirimar at 7pm following the women's game against Palomar.
