Women's Volleyball: Conference Champions Decided Throughout State
It's the home stretch in the 2024 women's volleyball season as all but one of the state's conference championships have already been decided while the RPI for teams will help determine the 40 seeds, 20 from each region, that advance to the postseason.
On Wednesday night in the biggest upset of the season, state #1 San Joaquin Delta was shocked by unranked Cosumnes River in four sets, the first time that CRC has ever beaten Delta in a match. The win has allowed both #5 American River and #3 Sierra to break what was a 3-way tie with the Mustangs for the Big 8 Conference lead. The two squads have their final matches on Friday, Nov. 15, but will likely finish as co-champions.
At #2, Fresno City clinched its 17th consecutive Central Valley Conference title by sweeping Sequoias. The Rams streak of CVC wins is now at 191.
Long Beach City, ranked #4 as SoCal's top-rated squad, swept #10 Cerritos, meaning the two teams will finish as South Coast Conference South Division co-champions. The SCC North also will have co-champions after the Nov. 6, 5-set win by #20 Pasadena City over #14 Mt. San Antonio.
At #5, San Diego Mesa clinched the Pacific Coast Athletic title with a perfect 16-0 run in conference play. Moorpark, #7-rated, edged #8 LA Mission in five sets and wins the always highly-competitive Western State North Division crown.
Ranked #9, Feather River swept Siskiyous to capture its 14th straight Golden Valley Conference championship. The Golden Eagles have won 72 consecutive conference matches.
Number 18-rated Canyons can clinch the Western State South Division crown outright with a win over Antelope Valley on Friday. At #22, Solano had a perfect 10-0 trip to win its seventh straight Bay Valley Conference title and stretch its conference win streak to 62 matches dating back to 2018.
At #23, San Bernardino Valley shares the Inland Empire Athletic championship with Mt. San Jacinto, each finishing 11-1.
On Nov. 8, West Valley stunned #19 San Mateo in a sweep to win its fifth straight Coast Conference South Division championship. Hartnell makes it back-to-back Coast North Division titles by sweeping Monterey Peninsula.
That leaves the Orange Empire Conference as the only title yet to be decided as #11 Orange Coast and Saddleback will break a first-place tie on Friday as both teams are 13-1. The two squads will still have to play one more match v. OEC opponents on Tuesday, Nov. 19 to officially see who is crowned.
Note--The RPI numbers continue to change based on remaining matches and won't be official until the seeding meetings confirms final numbers.
