Sophies winning trophies: CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #12
West Valley College outside hitter Sophie Ehret, Grossmont middle blocker Daisy Ekeya and Saddleback setter Sophie Vienna were the choices in this week's CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #12.
Ehret, 5-foot-9 sophomore from Sunnyvale and Wilcox High, had spectacular performances in helping West Valley beat Ohlone, then clinch the Coast Conference South Division title with a sweep over San Mateo. Ehret blasted 28 kills, hit .400 with 13 digs v. Ohlone, then scored 25 kills, hitting at a .610 clip in the CSM victory. Ehret is second in the state in kills per set (4.88), total kills (464) and points scored (504.5).
Ekeya, a 5-10 freshman from Foothills Christian HS and Lemon Grove, pounded 12 kills, six blocks with eight digs and four aces in a Grossmont win over Imperial Valley. She is 12th in the state in total blocks and blocks per set (0.94).
Vienna, a 5-8 freshman from Edison High in Huntington Beach, set 97 assists and made 22 digs in two Saddleback victories last week. She dished out 53, defended 14 digs, had two blocks and two kills in a 4-set Bobcats' triumph over Irvine Valley. Vienna is second in the state in assists per set at 10.55.
