Fresno opposite, two SoCal talents named State Women's Volleyball Players of the Week #7
More variety in positions again for the CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #7 in Fresno City opposite Ashlan VanGronigen, LA Mission outside hitter Tawnie Ohrt, and Mt. San Antonio middle blocker Jordyn Romano.
VanGronigen, a 5-foot-11 sophomore from Sierra Pacific High in Hanford, was instrumental in helping Fresno defeat three Top 25 teams in Taft, American River and Feather River this past week. She totaled 53 kills, 25 digs, and five blocks in the three victories and hit an impressive .322.
Ohrt, a freshman from Burroughs High in Burbank, blasted a season-high 27 kills in LA Mission's 4-set win over Santa Barbara, then landed 23 kills in a victory over Allan Hancock. She hit a sparkling .407 in eight sets. Ohrt has helped the Eagles stay undefeated through 16 matches this season.
Romano, a 6-1 sophomore transfer from NCAA Division II Fort Lewis College and a product of Fort Collins HS in Colorado, was Mt. SAC's best player in a 5-set loss v. SoCal top-ranked Long Beach. She scored 10 kills and had six blocks (three solo) v. the Vikings, then knocked down 12 kills in just 18 swings (.556) in the Mounties' sweep over Rio Hondo.
