NorCal duo, Irvine Valley hitter are CCCWVCA State Players of Week #8
Irvine Valley College outside hitter Tessa Marocco, San Joaquin Delta setter Caprisa Brock, and Solano middle blocker Hannah Del Rio are the CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #8.
Marocco, a 5-foot-9 sophomore talent out of Santa Ana's Mater Dei High, was the SoCal choice. As a freshman she made the All-Southern California team and was Co-MVP of the Orange Empire Conference. This year, she is 14th in the state in kills at 3.91 per set.
Last week in two sweeps by the Lasers, Marocco totaled 20 kills and 17 digs. She landed 12 kills and hit .611 with nine digs against Santiago Canyon. She then scored eight kills (.316), served six aces, and had eight digs. On Oct. 6, she recorded season bests with 22 kills and 24 digs in a 5-set win over Orange Coast. This is the second time Marocco was recognized as POTW, selected in week #6 last year.
Brock, a 5-9 freshman from Saint Mary's High in Stockton, is 10th in the state in assists at 9.12 per set. She passed out 32 assists, hit three kills, and made eight digs in Delta's sweep over Sierra, then set 33 assists with seven digs and two blocks in another Mustangs sweep over American River.
She shared this week's NorCal award with Solano's Del Rio, a 6-0 sophomore from Will C. Wood High in Vacaville, pounded her season-high of 17 kills in just 23 swings (hit .652) with two blocks in a sweep over Contra Costa. She then recorded nine kills without an error in only 11 attempts (hit .818) in another Falcons sweep over Yuba. Del Rio's .345 hitting percentage is eighth in the state.
