Big hitters from Saddleback, Lassen named CCCWVCA State Players of Week #7
Saddleback 6-foot-1 powerful outside hitter Stila Fresenius and Lassen's 6-foot bomber OH Cayton White were selected as CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #7.
Fresenius, a freshman from California Prepatory Academy in San Juan Capistrano, is the state's leading kills per set leader by far, averaging a monstrous 6.10 kills, while hitting at a highly efficient .354 percentage. She is also one of the Bobcats best defensive players, averaging 3.71 digs.
Last week, she pounded 35 kills in 78 swings, added season-high 25 digs, six block assists and two aces, finishing with an unconscious 40 points scored in a 5-set win over Orange Coast. Fresenius then ripped 26 kills with 16 digs and four blocks in a 4-set triumph over Golden West. She has led Saddleback to a current half-game lead to top the Orange Empire Conference standings at 6-1. On Sept. 20, Fresenius scored her season-best 38 kills in a 5-set victory over Santa Ana.
White, from Damonte Ranch High in Reno, Nevada, recorded a combined 22 kills, 20 digs, three aces, and two solo blocks while hitting .435 in Lassen's Golden Valley Conference-opening sweeps over Shasta and Butte.
White is averaging 3.28 kills, a team-best 3.58 digs, and is tied for 10th in the state in total aces with 41 (0.72 per set).
Her all-around play has helped the Cougars to a #9 ranking in the state while leading the state in overall victories with 21.
