CCCAA Women's Volleyball: Standings l Scoreboard
HUNTINGTON BEACH - No. 24-ranked Golden West stunned the No. 9 Irvine Valley College in a 25-18, 25-21, 25-17 sweep in Orange Empire Conference action Friday night.
The Rustlers came out sharp and ready to play as they proved they belong in the state rankings and near the top of the OEC standings. Freshman outside hitter, Adriana Morales led the team with 11 kills while tallying 10 assists and 10 digs in the victory. The first set was a back and forth battle before the Rustlers pulled away late for the 25-18 set one win. Irvine Valley had their best chance at winning a set in the second but Golden West didn't back down and fought for the slim 25-21, 2-0 lead.
The third set saw the Rustlers just dominate the set from start to finish after they built an early 8-2 lead. Freshman libero, Emely Hererdia was all over the court recording 20 digs and setter Katie Griffin kept setting her teammates up with 23 assists all night. Golden West cruised in the third set 25-17 to earn their 3-0 sweep over the number ranked team in the state polls.
The Rustlers are set to hit the road on Wednesday, Oct. 5 to take on Fullerton College for a 6 pm start.
