Vikings hoops falls to Wolverines
SAN BERNARDINO • It was a tough weekend in San Bernardino, as the Barstow Community College basketball teams both dropped road games at San Bernardino Valley Community College on Saturday.
The women played first and lost by a 65-45 score.
It was a game that got away in the second half, as it was all tied up at 29-29 at halftime. A Lady Vikings letdown at both ends of the court resulted in the home team outscoring the visitors by a 36-16 margin in the last 20 minutes.
Jasmine Cruz led BCC offensively, scoring 11 points off the bench, while taking down four rebounds. Ebony Black-Smith had a double-double, with 10 points, 16 boards, four steals, three blocks and three assists, with 10 points and six rebounds from Megan Miles, and five points, nine rebounds and four assists for Tichina Savoy.
San Bernardino's (11-6, 3-0) Summer Ramsey led all scorers with 16 points off the bench.
The Lady Vikings (13-9, 2-1) host College of the Desert for a 1 p.m. start this Saturday afternoon.
The BCC men also lost to the Wolverines, 116-70.
Scoring-wise, each team had basically identical first and second halves, with 58 points in each for SBVC, and 36 and 34 for the Vikings.
Though an illness last week limited his court time, BCC's Javone Rabon is still second in the Foothill Conference in scoring, averaging 23.4 points per game. He netted 19 points on Saturday, and took down six rebounds. Daniel Gampe and Cedric Young each had 11 points, and Young also added six boards.
Each of the Wolverines' (19-6, 3-0) five starters, and one bench player, scored in double figures, led by Gerry Blakes' 27 points.
The Vikings (1-17, 0-3) will host College of the Desert at home this Saturday at 3 p.m.
