College of San Mateo football to host discussion on racism and inequality with the "The Huddle Up" on Wednesday night
An open letter and invitation from College of San Mateo football coach Tim Tulloch:
Coaches and athletes have been on the forefront of creating change in regards to racism and inequality in our country for decades. Think Jesse Owens/Archie Williams (CSM alum), Jim Brown, Muhammad Ali, Coach Herman Boone (Remember the Titans), etc. to name a few.
Us coaches in 2020 need to lead. Supportive social media posts will raise awareness but is not enough. We see the same chapter of the book over and over again, with a different name in a different city...we need to put a THE END to the book and start to write a new book.
We are calling a "Huddle" with our athletes, who are in pain and have a deep sense of hopelessness, together with our local police chiefs/mayors to work in partnership on real meaningful solutions. It starts with a genuine conversation. We believe this is a national issue (dating back centuries) that has to be solved on a local level, right here in each of our communities. We can foster a start of meaningful, real change, and it starts now.
I would love for you to attend our event, "The Huddle Up - Coaches for Change" Wednesday (June 3) at 6 pm (PDT).
