October 28, 2024
SALINAS - It's nearly championship season and some of the final regular-season meets were contested in the North and South on the weekend of Oct. 19.
At the Pat Ryan Invitational held at Spring Lake, Isaac Feleay led his SRJC Bearcubs to the team victory with his individual win in 21:23. He pulled his teammate to a 1-2 finish and Santa Rosa upset higher ranked DeAnza College on the familiar paths of Spring Lake. DeAnza College showed its depth on the women's side with Corinne Thelen running a strong third position in 20:33 while finishing fifth overall. She continues to close the gap on four previous ROTW, two of which are teammates Joselin Joya Camacho and Mackenzie MacDonald. She helped the Mountain Lions to the team victory in preparation for the Coast Conference Championship next week.
Sophomore Ava Cornell of Mt.SAC enjoyed the individual victory in her last tour of her home course at the Mt.SAC Invitational. Cornell, who placed 15th in 2023, improved her time by over a minute in her victory and pushed the Mounties into the top team spot. San Bernardino Valley College runner Kevin Nava was the top placing two-year runner at the Highlander Invitational held at UC Riverside. He finished in front of Socal Preview Runner-Up and previous ROTW Tommy White of Moorpark. Nava has been a consistent performer all season starting with his top 14 finish at the state preview.
