Cerritos College's Jazzmine Davis cruises to SoCal Heptathlon Regional title
MISSION VIEJO - Cerritos College’s Jazzmine Davis captured a win at the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) Southern California Regional Heptathlon Finals on Wednesday at Saddleback College. Davis scored a season-best 4,599 points in the two-day event and now heads to the 3C2A Finals as one of the favorites to win the state women’s heptathlon title.
Davis won two events on day one of the event when she ran up a big lead heading into the final three events on Wednesday. She won the 100-hurdles (14.39) and 200 meters (25.17) and had a 526-point advantage after the opening day. Davis started day two the same way in winning the long jump with a season-best leap of 5.47 meters. She then went on to finish second in the javelin throw (30.56m) and third in the 800 meters (2:35.85) on Wednesday for an 848-point victory.
Palomar College’s Janniece Pingley finished in second place in the competition with 3,751 points. Pingley won both the high jump (1.55m) and javelin throw (32.45m) competitions.
Rounding out the top five in Southern California were Golden West College’s Emily Nguyen (3,622), Orange Coast College’s Annabelle Low (3,528) and Orange Coast College’s Katelyn Muniz (3,492).
The 3C2A State Championships are scheduled to take place at Modesto Junior College on May 19-20.
