SBVC Women’s Soccer rolls by the Coyotes on Sophomore Day, 11-0
SBVC (14-0-5; 7-0-2) continues to impress as they put seven goals in the back of the net in the first half alone, with the team taking a total of 58 shots, 32 of which were on goal and three keepers combining for a clean sheet over the winless Ridgecrest Cerro Coso Coyotes (0-16-1; 0-8-1), 11-0.

The Cerro Coso goal keeper was under assault all game, making 21 saves, with the SBVC offensive attack firmly in playoff mode. Sophomore goal keeper Makayla Cowles (Riverside Arlington) started the game for the home side and handed the reigns over to sophomore goal keeper Sarah Gonzales (San Bernardino H.S.) then freshman goal keeper Joscelyn Sanchez (Bloomington H.S.) wrapped up the afternoon for SBVC.
Sophomore forward Veronica Parker (Hesperia Sultana), sophomore forward Cynthia Chavez (Cathedral City H.S.) and freshman midfielder Claudia Zepeda (Cathedral City H.S.) all scored two goals each.Freshman midfielder Julissa Magana (Bloomington H.S), sophomore forward Gabriela Parra (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) and freshman forward Mariana Madrigal (Jurupa Valley H.S.) all had two assists each.
SBVC scored goals early and often as the home side got onto the board in the 2nd minute when Parra connected with Chavez, nine minutes later in the 11th minute, sophomore midfielder Bibiana Mondragon (San Jacinto H.S.) forwarded a pass to Parker to give SBVC a 2-0 lead.
In the 20th minute, sophomore midfielder Katie Hernandez (Beaumont H.S.) got in on the action, assisting Chavez with her second goal of the afternoon and four minutes later, Magana passed to Parker who rifled a shot past the diving Coyotes keeper to give SBVC a 4-0 lead.
In the 35th minute, Magana with her second assist lobbed a pass into sophomore defender Marlene Magallon (Hesperia H.S.) who pounded her attempt past the keeper and in the 36th minute, Magana herself got in on the goal scoring with an assist from Parker to give SBVC a 6-0 lead. Just before halftime Hernandez grabbed a Sophomore Day gift from Parra and put a shot into the net to give SBVC a 7-0 lead in the 40th minute.
Moments into the second half SBVC struck again, this time in the 50th minute, when Madrigal connected with freshman midfielder Danielle Kakebeen (Rancho Cucamonga H.S.) and less than a minute later Madrigal with her second assist clobbered a through ball to Zepeda to give SBVC a 9-0 lead.
In the 55th minute, Zepeda again found the back of the net, this time with the assist of freshman forward Milan Castellanos (Redlands H.S) to give SBVC a 10-0 lead. In the 86th minute, SBVC was awarded a penalty kick, which was taken and won by freshman forward Caitlin Weaver (Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World).
