The Foster City hitting duo of Meagan Wells and Samantha Dean smashed first inning home runs over the left field fence as College of San Mateo began a softball doubleheader shutout sweep of Reedley, 12-0, and Shasta, 10-0, in mercy rule games Saturday.
That completed a perfect 3-0 week for the state top-ranked Lady Bulldogs (16-2). The most significant win was a 5-0 blanking of Big 8 Conference leader San Joaquin Delta on Thursday. Hillsdale High grad Wells went 3-for-4 at the plate and state E.R.A. leader Madison Mercer (6-0) pitched the shutout, striking out five. Dean and Lauren Quirke each had a pair of RBIs.
