Minimal Shift in 3CWPCA Week Four Rankings
With conference play well underway, a multitude of squads are continuing to push for conference championships and a 3C2A State Championship berth. Santa Barbara's women's team remains the lone undefeated team in the state, while Golden West's men's team faces a steady competition but is yet to budge from atop the standings.
MEN
The Golden West College Rustlers remain the best team in the state despite a hefty Orange Empire Conference (OEC) slate that will push them to the brink. It was a light schedule for the Rustlers the past two week as they defeated Cypress, 18-5, and No. 4 Orange Coast, 11-6. They will enter a contest against No. 2 Saddleback on Wednesday for the top spot in the conference standings.
Leading the way for the Rustlers continues to be freshman Tomas De Luca who has scored 41 goals, pocketed 25 steals, and dished out 23 assists. He has scored in all but three games this season and has three or more goals in seven contests. Sophomore Itay Roth follows with 36 goals and a team-leading 34 steals to complete the one-two punch.
No. 2 Saddleback leapfrogged No. 3 West Valley to solidify the South's top two teams. No. 4 Orange Coast and No. 5 Mt. San Antonio round out the top-five for the third-consecutive week.
Not much has changed in the remainder of the rankings with No 6 Long Beach and No. 7 Cuesta remaining in the same position, while No. 8 American River and No. 9 LA Valley remain in the rankings. No. 10 Riverside breaks into the top-10 for the first time this season after receiving votes the past two weeks. Sierra, who was previously ranked 10th, slides out of the top-10 along with Cerritos who was previously ranked seventh overall.
WOMEN
The Vaqueros hold down the top spot for the fourth-consecutive week after being the lone undefeated team in the state. They cruised through the Ventura Tournament with wins over No. 9 Fullerton, No. 10 Golden West, No. 4 Saddleback and conference-foe No. 8 Ventura.
Sophomore Claire Daland and freshman Addie Lane lead the team with 40 goals each, while freshman Cate Daland follows with 30 goals. Freshman Lily Carrick leads the team with 27 assists and 39 steals.
No. 2 Riverside is holding it down in the OEC and continues to make a push for the top spot. They faced Santa Barbara twice so far this season, but fell twice. The first game was decided by one goal, while the second found them losing by a trio of scores. They are riding a five-game winning streak two wins over No. 4 Saddleback and victories over No. 6 Long Beach and No. 9 Fullerton.
No. 3 West Valley remains the top team in the North for the fourth-consecutive week and remains in the top-three. No. 4 Saddleback holds down the fourth slot, while No, 5 Sierra is the only other northern team to crack the top-10.
No. 6 Long Beach, who sits atop of the Western State Conference (WSC), slightly missed a top-five berth, while No. 7 Orange Coast follows with the lone .500 record. No. 8 Ventura, no. 9 Fullerton and No. 10 Golden West round out the top-10.
