Joseph Corse Defeats Teammate to Capture Singles Championship
Joseph Corse (College of the Desert) and Hernan Olivas (College of the Desert) both had the exact same advantage and disadvantage for the 3C2A Singles State Championship, since they are teammates and know each other's strengths and weaknesses. Corse stated yesterday that it was going to be an intense match with a lot of emotion that built up throughout the year as they were both on the path to attempt to take home the title. Corse was able to come out on top defeating Olivas 6-4, 6-0.
It looked like that Corse was going to breeze through the first set, but Olivas fought back, but was not able to break one last serve on Corse, which Corse closed out to win 6-4. In the second set, Corse could not be stopped and quickly ended the match with the second set 6-0. Corse stated after the match on winning the state title, "it feels great, honestly I didn't expect it to be that easy, but I will take the win. It feels amazing."
Corse is attempting to get a sweep of awards as he is playing in the doubles finals later today. Being a team, singles and doubles champion is extremely difficult to achieve, which only the best of the best two-year college tennis players can accomplish. He stated, "I am really excited to play in the doubles later and see if I can do a clean sweep." Corse has played an amazing 14 matches over five days and has not dropped a single set.
