Two games, two wins for Folsom Lake soccer teams as 2018 gets underway

FOLSOM - A clash of two conference-title winning teams from 2017 produced an exciting season-opening match at Falcon Stadium on Tuesday evening, with the host Folsom Lake College men's soccer team narrowly defeating Napa Valley College, 1-0.
The defending Big 8 champion Falcons and Bay Valley champion Storm battled to a scoreless first half, although the Falcons controlled possession a majority of the time. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Falcon freshman midfielder Adam Ratto found teammate Miguel Medina open in the box and Medina did not miss for the season’s first goal.
The Falcon defense then clamped down for the remainder of the half to seal the victory. Sophomore transfer Frederico Ruiz and sophomore returnee Kody Madore shared the shutout victory as they split goalkeeping duties.
The Falcons return to action on Thursday afternoon when they play at Feather River College in Quincy, then host Lassen College on Saturday at Falcon Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

Women's Recap
SAN JOSE - The Folsom Lake College Falcons earned an exciting come-from-behind women's soccer victory on Tuesday afternoon in San Jose wiith freshman Sarah Freed scoring the winning goal in the 87th minute to secure a 2-1 win over Evergreen Valley College.
The two teams played a scoreless first half before Evergreen Valley broke the tie with a goal in the 58th minute. Now playing from behind, the Falcons took control on the attacking end, eventually resulting in a tying goal by freshman midfielder Hayley Semkiw, assisted by Corrine Christmann. The final 17 minutes were nerve-wracking as both teams took turns attacking for the winning goal. With just three minutes to play, Semkiw slotted a perfect pass to Freed, who netted the game-winner.
Falcon goalkeeper Izzy Chinchay was superb in the victory, stopping five Hawks’ shots on goal.
Folsom Lake will next play at Clovis on Tuesday at 2:30 pm.
