College of Marin baseball team slams 80 home runs during record-breaking season
KENTFIELD - The College of Marin’s baseball team has made history by setting a new state record for the most home runs in a single season. The Mariners smashed an impressive 80 home runs in just 45 games, surpassing the previous record of 76 set by Chabot College last season.
Leading the charge was Matteo Bellisimo, who hit a remarkable 17 home runs. Following closely were Lucas Schaefer with 15, Derek Bartram with 14, and Wyatt Davis with 8. Other notable contributors included Chris Delangis (6), Jacob Anteneh (5), Matteo Mendoza (4), Benny Nazario (4), Skylar Lenihan (3), Dashiell Carson (1), Dorian Foster (1), Zach Goldenberg (1), and Kisho Li Kircher (1).
The Mariners achieved the feat of hitting four home runs in seven different games this season, showcasing their consistent power-hitting.
The record could not be broken without the leadership and guidance from hitting coaches, Ryan Cooney and Tony Bellisimo. From preparing in the batting cage, fieldwork, and breaking down film, the coaches have laid the groundwork for the players. Ultimately, the buy-in from the players day in and day out is what allowed the team to carve their names in the history books.
Steve Berringer, who has been coaching the Mariners for a little over two decades, expressed his pride in the team’s achievement. "This record is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players. They’ve shown incredible talent and teamwork throughout the season."
Congratulations to the College of Marin Mariners for their record-breaking performance. The team’s remarkable season will be remembered for years to come.
