CCCWPCA announces first Players of the Week for 2024 men's and women's water polo seasons
SARATOGA - There may have been a limited schedule on the opening week of the 3C2A men’s and women’s water polo season, but there were plenty of outstanding individual performances. The Week One CCCWPCA men’s and women’s Players of the Week are:
MEN
Mateo Ruano • American River College
The 6-foot-2 freshman attacker from Rio Americano High School helped the 5th-ranked Beavers to a 2-0 weekend at the North/South Challenge at Merced College. Ruano recorded nine goals, three assists and four steals in 11-10 and 15-6 wins over #7 Mt. San Antonio and Riverside City, respectively.
WOMEN
Kyley Abril • Merced College
Blue Devil coach Billy Halpin called the 5-5 first-year utility player out of Buhach Colony High School an “offensive powerhouse who also shut down the opposing teams’ best offensive player.” Merced’s 14-4 season-opening win over American River and 14-6 loss to 5th-ranked Sierra illustrated Halpin’s description. She totaled five goals, two assists, six earned ejections and 10 steals.
