West Valley Holds Firm Atop CCCWPCA Week Three Rankings
MEN
The top three teams from week two's rankings remain intact in the form of West Valley, Golden West and Cuesta.
Top-ranked West Valley (21-2) continues to pace the state as they are currently boasting a 13-game winning streak. An undefeated October slate thus far has seen the Vikings take down strong competition featuring wins over No. 3 Orange Coast and No. 6 Long Beach in the Long Beach Mini Tournament last weekend.
The Vikings lead the state with 394 goals and 17.91 goals-per-game, while being ranked second with a 66.4 save percentage. Leading the pack is the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) September Male Athlete of the Month Ante Buzov. Buzov has scored a team-high 61 goals and has scored at least one goal in each game he has played.
No. 2 Golden West (13-3) has had limited October play, but still remains a staple in the rankings. Since the last state rankings release, the Rustlers have played one game and defeated No. 7 Orange Coast by the final score of 15-6. They have a tough sate ahead with games that feature No. 6 Saddleback, Riverside and Sierra.
No. 3 Cuesta (20-4) has experienced a busy October and has gone undefeated against all CCCAA competition with wins over No. 4 LA Valley, No. 6 Saddleback, No. 9 Diablo Valley and Las Positas.
No. 4 LA Valley jumps two spots after strong wins over No. 5 Long Bech and No. 7 Orange Coast at the Riverside Tournament, while No. 5 Long Beach and No. 6 Saddleback drop one spot.
No. 8 Mt. San Antonio holds strong, while No. 9 Diablo Valley replaces No. 10 Cerritos as the Falcons drop one spot after a loss to Riverside.
WOMEN
It is the West Valley and Fullerton show for the top two spots in the rankings, while Orange Coast enters the top three for the first time this season.
No. 1 West Valley (17-1) hold firm at the head of the pack despite being tabbed with their first loss of the season at the hands of No. 3 Orange Coast. The loss snapped the Vikings' 17-game winning streak and they are now one win off the state leaders in No. 2 Fullerton and the Pirates.
The Vikings are led by Johanna Scheer as she ranks second in the state with 73 goals. She has scored in all but one game this season and has scored five or more goals in nine games.
No. 2 Fullerton (18-2), who recently lost to No. 5 Riverside by one score, remains in the top two and sharing the state lead with 18 wins. Their 15-game winning streak was snapped with the loss, but defeated strong competition in October with triumphs over No. 7 Saddleback, No. 8 San Joaquin Delta and No. 9 Golden West.
No. 3 Orange Coast's (18-2) recent victory over top-ranked West Valley catapulted them into the top three after being ranked fourth overall in the past two polls. The Pirates have won 13-straight games with wins over No. 1 West Valley, No. 6 Long Beach and No. 9 Golden West.
No. 4 Santa Barbara drops one spot, while No. 5 Riverside rounds out the top five for the second-consecutive week. The Tigers will likely elevate after defeating the Hornets in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action Wednesday night.
No. 7 San Joaquin Delta leaps one spot along with No. 8 Saddleback and No. 9 Golden West. No. 10 Mt. San Antonio breaks into the top 10 after receiving votes in the first two polls.
