Bio
In 1979, Maxine "Mickey" Davis began her college teaching
and coaching career at the Golden West Community College. She was
the head coach for the Golden West softball team and led her squads
to three state championships.
Mickey's involvement in the sport of softball extends beyond
Southern California. In 1984, she was a member of the Los Angeles
Olympic Committee and played a role in the development of the first
US Olympic softball team in 1996. Mickey was recognized for her
efforts by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch in USA's Olympic
game against Japan. Mickey was also once the ambassador and
clinician for the International Softball Federation.
Mickey arrived at Long Beach City College in 1989 and was
instrumental in returning the college's athletic program to state
and national prominence. During her tenure, LBCC captured 23
California Community College titles and three national
championships. Mickey's official title for 15 years at Long Beach
City College was Women's Athletic Director and Dean of Physical
Education/Athletics. You would have to cut down an entire forest to
get enough paper to list all the achievements and honors Davis has
earned across the years since going to work at Long Beach
CC.
