Bio

Fred Stennett played at Ventura High School from 1924 through 1925. Stennett was the star of a high school teacm that had about 10 members recruited to play at UCLA. However, the group decided they waanted to be a part of the first Ventura College football team, so they remained in Ventura and played for VC during the 1926 and 1927 season.

At 6'01'' and 204lbs, Fred was a triple threat to run, pass, and kick. He was also described as a deadly and accurate tackler. Fred had the distinction of being described as the "best back on the Coast" when he left Ventura College.

Fred brought his athletic prowess to St. Mary's College in nOrthern California in 1929 through 1930. here, he picked up the moniker "Blue Ghost". At the time Fred went to St. Mary's, the Gaels were one of the best football programs in California. Stennett's 1930 team ended the season 8-0-1. Victims of the Gaels included UCLA (24-0) and the University of Oregon (31-6). For his outstnading play, Fred was rewarded with an All Pacific Coast selection. The St. Mary's sqaud reached a #4 National Ranking, and tied USC for the Rose Bowl selection; unfortunatley, USC was given the nod for the Rose Bowl game.

Fred went on to play professional football for the Portsmouth (Ohio) Spartans and for the Chicago Bears in 1932, and last played pro football in San Francisco in 1933. Fred returned to Ventura and operated a hardware business until his death. 

Due to his athletic achievements over the years, Fred brought fame and recognition to Ventura High School, Ventura College and the city of Ventura
