Williams, Sutton Named 3CFCA Players of the Week
Williams led Orange Coast to a historic win and Sutton was near-perfect in the circle.
LOS ANGELES — Ariana Williams and Amaya Sutton have been named the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA) Players of the Week.
Williams earns 3CFCA Player of the Week honors after she led Orange Coast to a 3-1 week and was instrumental in a 10-4 upset win over No. 3 Cypress, the Pirates' first win over the Chargers in 27 years. Williams was excellent at the plate in the win going 4-4 with four RBIs and a pair of runs. Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the second, Williams placed the momentum fully on the Pirates' side when she blasted a two-run shot over the right-center fence to extend the lead to 4-1. The outfielder followed up the next inning with an RBI single to put Orange Coast up by seven on the way to a 10-4. The Pirates last defeated Cypress 1-0 in 1996.
Williams finished the week with 13 hits, three doubles, three home runs, nine RBIs, and an amazing .765 batting average. In the Pirates' lone loss of the week to No. 8 Fullerton, she batted 4-5 with three runs and a pair of RBIs. The freshman currently ranks fourth in the state with a .522 batting average.
In a week with several incredible pitching performances, Sierra's Sutton stood out with a near-perfect two-game stretch to pick up her second 3CFCA Pitcher of the Week award. Sutton earned two complete-game, shutout wins while striking out 21 batters and giving up just seven hits and three walks. She opened the week with a 10-strikeout game against No. 19 American River, allowing just one hit to leave the infield.
Sutton closed out the week by pitching a one-hit gem against Santa Rosa with 11 strikeouts in a defensive battle to give the Wolverines a 1-0 win. Sutton is 16-1 in the circle this season and leads the state with 148 strikeouts. She's pitched eight complete games with four shutout wins and boasts an ERA of 1.33.
