BACK TO THE FINAL FOUR

For the third straight season, the No. 1 south Hornets will play in the semi-final game of the 3C2A State Tournament after defeating No. 4 north Consumes River 68-53 Thursday night.

Since the State Tournament began in 1951, the Hornet basketball program has been to the Final Four 15 times. Under head coach Perry Webster the team has now made it 5 times in 9 seasons.

On Wednesday night, the 3C2A along with the CCCMBCA hosted the tournament banquet where the All-State Team was announced. Earning Player of the Year for the South was Joe Grahovac. Making 1st Team All-State was Jaqari Miles. For the third time in his career as head coach for the Hornets, Perry Webster was selected as the Coach of the Year. Webster earned the honor in 2017 and 2019. 

For the game, the first half was close with both teams jockeying for position, however Fullerton ended the half with a small 30-26 lead. It was the second half where the Hornets hit some big shots swinging the game in their favor. Two consecutive three-pointers by Addy G'Bye and Jaqari Miles in the 16th minute lifted FC 41-28 putting Hawks of Consumes River on notice. Despite the Hawks pulling within nine (41-32) with 13 minutes left, the Hornet defense was too strong forcing turnovers and off-balance shots suffocating any chance for the Hawks to come back. 

Joe Grahovac had a big game with 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Jaqari Miles scored 14 points, while Addy G'Bye put up 10. Darvelle Wyatt had 9 points and brought down 10 boards. Justin Daivs ran the court dishing out 7 assists.

Up Next: The No. 1 south Hornets (29-3) will face off with No. 3 south San Bernardino Valley College for the 3C2A Final Four (semi-final) at Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday, March 15th at 3:00 pm. San Bernardino Valley and Fullerton met earlier in the season with the Hornets beating the Wolverines on the road 73-69.
