Warriors Split at Day One of South Coast Conference Tournament

El Camino College will play for third place after splitting its two matches in day one of the South Coast Conference tournament on Thursday at Cerritos College.

EL CAMINO COLLEGE 16, CHAFFEY 10

The Warriors took a 5-2 lead after one quarter and were able to use that cushion to hold off the Panthers and advance to the semifinals of the tournament.

Brandon Guerrero led the Warriors with seven goals on 11 shots. Cole Allyn added three goals with Josh Terry and Seth Ulrich scoring two apiece. Nate Griffith scored one goal and led the team with six assists in the victory. Brandon Soto made 15 saves to earn the win in net.

LONG BEACH 24, EL CAMINO COLLEGE 11

The Warriors fell in a huge hole after the first quarter and never recovered. The Vikings took a 10-2 lead after the first period and led 17-4 at the half as the outcome was never in question.

Despite the loss, the Warriors got solid showings from Griffith (5) and Allyn (4) as the duo combined for nine of the team's 11 goals. Guerrero scored the other two goals and Joseph Banda led the team with five assists.

The Warriors will now face Cerritos on Saturday afternoon in the third place game of the South Coast Conference Tournament.
