WALNUT, Calif. --- Heitor Trefilio scored both the game-tying goal and game-winning goal to lift El Camino College past Mount San Antonio, 18-17, in double overtime to claim third place at the South Coast Conference Tournament held at the Mt. SAC Aquatics Center.
Trefilio tied the match at 15-15 with 2:14 left in regulation to send the game into overtime and then recorded the game-winner with just seven seconds left in double overtime.
The Mounties had one final shot to send the match into sudden death but Henry De Luna Pena's attempt to tie things up was blocked by Scott Fujiwara to lock up the win for the Warriors and give ECC its second victory over the Mounties at Mt. SAC this season.
It is the highest finish for the Warriors in the SCC Tournament since 2017 when they also defeated Mt. SAC for third place at Mt. SAC.
Trefilio finished with the match with three goals and one assist with two steals while Fujiwara led ECC with six goals, five assists, three steals and an incredible five field blocks.
With the win, the Warriors qualified for the 3C2A Southern California Water Polo Regionals, which begin on Thursday at Orange Coast College.
The Warriors drew the No. 10 seed and will face a familiar foe in No. 7 seed Cerritos, which finished as the runner-up at the SCC Tournament and defeated the Warriors in both meetings this season.
The winner of the match will advance to face No. 2 seed Long Beach, the 2024 SCC Tournament champions.
