STRONG ROAD-WIN FOR HORNETS
The Hornets took the vans up to Citrus College on Tuesday night and handed the Owls their second loss of the season 77-61.
It was a big non-conference win for Fullerton bumping its overall record to 7-1, while Citrus bumps down to 5-2 overall. The Owl's other loss came at the hands of back-to-back state champs Orange Coast College.
In the opening minutes, Fullerton fell behind 5-0 but quickly recovered tying the game up 5-5. The Owls made another push going on a 13-6 run (18-11) with 3:49 left in the quarter, but FC once again closed the gap. By the start of the second quarter, the Hornets trailed 20-15.
Fullerton managed to turn the game around grabbing its first lead of 26-24 on a jumper by Xochitl Hood at 5:36 in the second quarter. Continuing the momentum that was led by Hood's 8 points, Fullerton went on to outscore Citrus 27-10 for a healthy 42-30 halftime lead.
The Hornets did not let up in the second half taking their largest lead of 20 (64-44) at 7:48 thanks to a jump shot by Erin Choi. Citrus tried to mount a comeback later in the fourth, but Kaylee Shimoda's jumper with 20 seconds left in regulation sealed the win for Fullerton.
Xochitl Hood had a big night scoring a game-high 20 points, had 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Kaylee Shimoda wasn't too far behind with 16 points, had 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. Hailey Lakey scored 14 points with 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Erin Choi put up 7 points and Jimena Solorio scored 6.
