A cat with a hat

The Saddleback women's soccer team advanced to the regional semifinals with a 4-1 win against Long Beach City College on Saturday night inside the stadium.  Anjelina Nieto scored a natural hat trick in the win.

Saddleback opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Nieto scored her first goal of the game off a pass from Jinan Said.  It was Nieto's 10th goal of the season, but she was just getting started.  Nieto scored again before the half when Allison Lozano fed a ball into the box and Nieto headed it past the Long Beach City keeper.  It gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead in the 33rd minute and put the Vikings in a big hole.

Nieto put the game out of reach in the 55th minute when she collected a loose ball and lofted it over the Long Beach keeper for a 3-0 lead.  It was a natural hat trick for Nieto and her 12th goal of the season.

Long Beach City finally broke through in the 61st minute when Lorena Moreno took a free kick from 25 yards out and Danika Hunter steered it into the net to cut the Long Beach deficit to two.

Saddleback put the game away in the final minute when Hannah Allen collected a loose ball and lofted a kick into the upper left-hand corner for a 4-1 advantage.  The head referee promptly whistled the game complete at the next kickoff, sending Saddleback into the regional semifinals.

Saddleback is now 15-2-3 overall following the win.  The Bobcats have won 11 straight games and ran their unbeaten string to 16 games in the process.

Saddleback will host Santiago Canyon College in the regional semifinals on Tuesday after the Hawks defeated Mt. San Antonio College, 2-1.  The Bobcats and Hawks are scheduled to start at 7:00 PM inside the stadium.
