BAKERSFIELD, CA - In an electrifying match at the BC Soccer Field, the visiting College of the Canyons Cougars secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Bakersfield College women's soccer team. Both teams displayed toughness and determination, but a late goal sealed the win for Canyons leaving the Renegades with no time to return.
The scoring began early, with Canyons in the 18th minute to give her team a 1-0 lead. BC responded in the 31st minute when sophomore Emily Vincent, assisted by Mayson Saffouri, scored the equalizer, leveling the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.
The second half saw Canyons dominate the attack, recording 9 shots to Bakersfield's 2. Despite Bakersfield goalkeeper Mercedes Ramirez's outstanding performance with 8 saves, Canyons broke through in the 89th minute by a lucky shot in the far left corner on a late opportunity to score the game-winner.
Bakersfield's aggressive play resulted in 7 fouls, and a yellow card was issued to Melanie Mendizabal in the 80th minute.
With the loss, the Renegades fall to 4-5-1 and 1-2 in conference play. They will head out for two road games before returning home on Friday, October 18th against Citrus at 4:00 PM.
