(Oceanside, CA) With two goals in the second half, the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team came away with a 3-2 win over host Mira Costa College Monday afternoon in the opening game of the season.

Scoring two goals for the Mounties (1-0) was sophomore forward Giovanny Garcia. The goal came in the 18th minute by Garcia, assisted by sophomore defender Alfonso Lopez.

The Mounties, who are ranked 7th nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Association poll, ended the half with a 1-0 lead over Mira Costa.

The Spartans evened the game 1-1 early in the second half, with just three minutes gone in the 48th minute.

However, two quick goals in the 63rd and 66th minute gave the Mounties some breathing room, 3-1. Garcia scored the Mounties second goal of the game, assisted by sophomore midfielder Omar Alcala. Freshman forward Alan Piceno stretched the lead to a pair of goals, assisted by sophomore midfielder Randy De Los Santos.

Mira Costa trailed 3-2, on an unassisted goal with six minutes remaining in the game in the 84th minute.

Freshmen keepers Alain Hernandez and John Samano split time between the pipes in the game for the Mounties.

Hernandez shutout the Spartans in the first half to get credit for the win.
