BASEBALL: UNABLE TO RECOVER

The Hornets had their home opener on Tuesday against Mount San Antonio College and lost 9-1 to the Mounties in a non-conference game.

Before the start of the game, the Hornets and Mounties paid tribute to Orange Coast College Head Coach John Altobelli and his family by holding a 30-second moment of silence.

Unable to match Mt. SAC's early onslaught of runs, the Hornets had a hard time getting on track today.  The loss gives FC their second on the season after falling at Cerritos College last Friday 7-0.

The Mounties got on the board in the first inning on Cole Jordan's double down the left line scoring Art Ruiz and Ryan Williams. Cameron White's single to left field scored Jordan for the third run.

The Hornets put a run on the board in the bottom of the first when Julian Tellez grounded to second giving Ryan Lamastra the chance to score from third.

Mt. San Antonio scored two more runs in the second on Ruiz's triple to right center scoring Williams and Ben Guess.

In the fifth inning the Mounties broke the game open bringing four across to go up 9-1. Williams reached on a fielder's choice allowing Guess to score. Ruiz (2 for 2) came up and hit a double to right field plating Williams and Nick Lugo. Albert Luevano hit a single to left that got by the short stop and left fielder as he slid into second. Ruiz came in for the final run of the game.

Fullerton relievers Steven Loera and Adam Armstrong came in and shut down the surging Mounty offense. Loera tossed 3.1 innings of 3-hit baseball with no walks or runs against. Armstrong finished off the game going 1.1 innings without a batter getting on base.

The Hornets had 6 hits on the day with 2 stolen bases, and committed only 1 error. Hits were had by Ryan Lamastra, Tony Accordino, Andrew Sanchez, Nolan Ewens, Luis Chavarin, and Jack Janes.

Up Next: Fullerton (0-2 overall) will host another game on Hornet Field on Thursday, January 30th when they face Mt. San Jacinto College. The first pitch goes out at 2:00 pm.
