Pirates earn split at Ventura Tournament
VENTURA -- The Orange Coast College women's water polo team earned a split out of this weekend's four matches at the Ventura College Tournament, earning Day 2 wins over Palomar (12-3) and Modesto (17-6) after a pair of Day 1 losses to Santa Barbara (11-2) and Sierra (10-9).
In the win over Palomar, the Pirates (11-9 overall) picked up a big game from Faye Garcia, who led the way with five goals, while Lyric Roddenberry added two goals. Single tallies were turned in by Jackie Ramirez, Finley Munchoff, Evalyn Galeana, Ella Sweeney and Jaiden Cervantes.
In goal, Emily Jones was solid, allowing just three goals with six saves.
In the tourney finale against Modesto, Coast pulled away early and carried a 10-3 lead into the second half before cruising to victory. Abi Patterson and Tatum Rogers each had three goals to pace the Pirate offense, while Galeana, Roddenberry and Maya Abu-Salem each tossed in two goals.
Jones was solid in front of the goal again for OCC with eight saves to pick up the win.
Coast will return to the friendly confines of the OCC Aquatics Pavilion on Wednesday against Fullerton College, beginning at 3 p.m.
