SBCC Men's Basketball Falls to Bakersfield College, 69-59
The Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) men's basketball team suffered a 69-59 defeat to Bakersfield College, despite a strong rebounding effort. The Vaqueros were led by Julian Hicks, who scored 12 points, with James Reach adding 10. SBCC outrebounded the Renegades 39-31, including an impressive 17 offensive rebounds. However, the Vaqueros struggled to capitalize on their offensive boards, scoring just 6 points off those 17 opportunities.
Shooting Struggles and Free-Throw Woes
The Vaqueros' shooting performance was a major factor in their loss, as they shot just 33% from the field and 30% from beyond the arc. Their free-throw shooting also proved to be a significant issue, going 12-21 (57%) from the line. Head coach Devin Engebretsen expressed concern about the team's scoring difficulties and free-throw performance. "We continue to have some trouble scoring the basketball, and obviously the free-throws are concerning," he said. "We did a tremendous job on the offensive glass, but only scoring 6 points off of those is troubling."
Bakersfield's Efficient Offense
Bakersfield College shot a more efficient 49% from the field and 41% from three-point range. The Renegades also excelled at the free-throw line, hitting 16-21 attempts. Ollie Fell led the Renegades with 15 points, including a stellar 9-10 performance from the charity stripe.
Next Up for SBCC
The Vaqueros will look to bounce back in their next games, taking on Cerro Coso College on Thursday before hosting Santa Monica College on Saturday.
