Ohlone Men's Basketball Enters New Year With 12-2 Record, Ranked #19 in State

FREMONT, CA - Ohlone College Men's Basketball finished non-conference play with a 12-2 record following the College of San Mateo Winter Classic, where they split games against #26 College of Siskiyous and #22 College of the Redwoods. Currently, the Renegades are ranked #19 in the State.

Ohlone has been led by a veteran group with six sophomores providing their experience. Sophomore Amos Hodgson is the team's leading scorer at 13.6 points per game along with 2.7 steals a game (#10 in the State). Wesley Burns has been a jack of all trades providing 7.3 points, 6.6 rebounds per game. His 3.7 offensive rebounds per game is #1 in the state among all wing positions (#14 overall in the State). On that list, sophomore captain Michael Fastion is #4 in the State in blocks at 3 per game, and #7 in offensive rebounds at 4.4. Fastion has been touted as one of the best defensive forwards in the CCCAA and will make a case for an All Defensive Team nomination in the prestigious Coast-North Conference. Sharpshooter Sam Manzo leads the team in 3pt% at 39.7% and is coming off a shooting streak going 10-14 from deep range over the last three games.

The sophomore group is shored up by Ryan Unkelbach and Ashton Proctor. Unkelbach was critical in a one point victory against San Joaquin Delta College scoring his career high 14 points in the matchup. Proctor had his career high earlier in the season against Orange Coast College, scoring 18 points.

Ohlone College takes on Coast-North rival Chabot College on January 8 to begin conference play. The game will be played in Hayward at 7PM.
