BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 10, 2024) - The Bakersfield College men's soccer team pulled off a stunning second-half comeback to defeat East Los Angeles College 3-2 in a thrilling home match. After going down 2-0 early in the game, the Renegades surged back in the final 10 minutes, scoring three goals to secure a hard-fought victory.
East Los Angeles took control early, scoring two unassisted goals in the 10th and 21st minutes, giving ELAC a commanding 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Bakersfield struggled to find their rhythm in the first half but came out rejuvenated after the break. Their persistence paid off in the 80th minute when defender Isaiah Castaneda, assisted by freshman Juan Baron, pulled one back for the Renegades. Just three minutes later, in the 83rd minute, freshman Jovanny Salazar tied the game at 2-2 with a Joshua Bryant assist.
In the final minute of regulation, the Renegades completed the comeback when sophomore Jordee Magana scored the game-winner, assisted by both Bryant and midfielder Christopher Gandara. Magana's strike sent the crowd into a frenzy as the Renegades secured the 3-2 victory.
Goalkeeper Victor Melendez played a crucial role in keeping Bakersfield in the match, making six saves against East Los Angeles attack.
With the win, the Renegades move 3-3 on the season. The men will take a short break and take the field again on Friday, September 20th, against our Central Valley Foes, Fresno City College at 4:00 pm.
