No. 8 Knights Open Season With a Split at Tournament of Champions
San Diego City traveled to play two games at the Tournament of Champions, hosted by West Valley College, and came away with a 70-66 loss to defending state champion West Valley and an 89-86 overtime win over state semifinalist Yuba.

Sophomore guard Kenny Gonzalez led the Knights offensively with 15 points against the West Valley Vikings, who are ranked No. 2 in Northern California. Three others scored in double figures, including sophomore Logan Huston who missed most of last season due to injury. Huston totaled 14 points, while sophomores Reid Celestin and Dillon Cubit added 11 points a piece off the bench.
The Knights hung on for the 3-point overtime victory over Northern California No. 9 Yuba with Huston dropping a career-high 29 points. Gonzales had 16 points and Brandon Bento-Jackson scored 12 points. Celestin added 11 points in a starting role.
Having already faced tough competition in the first two games of the 2024-25 season, the No. 8 (Southern California) ranked Knights will continue to face some of the top teams in the state over at least the next five games.
The Knights will play No. 18 (SoCal) Ventura in their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. They will then match up against No. 20 Barstow (Nov. 22), No. 5 San Jose City (Nov. 23), and No. 17 Allan Hancock (Nov. 24) all at the Allan Hancock College Tournament.
City will then return to Harry West Gym on Nov. 30 to host No. 1 Fullerton at 2 p.m.
