TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College suffered its second straight loss to a ranked opponent, falling to No. 7 Mount San Antonio 3-2 on Friday afternoon in a South Coast Conference match at the ECC Soccer Field.
The Warriors fell to No. 3 Pasadena on Tuesday and dropped Tuesday's match against the Mounties despite two goals from freshman Sarahi Sanchez. Sophomore Nevaeh Johnson entered the match early in the first half and made four saves in the loss.
This week's losses were the first for ECC since Sept. 20 and first at home since Sept. 13 against Ventura.
The Mounties opened the scoring in the 17th minute as Kathryn Davis capitalized on a Warriors turnover as starting goalie Jordan Stemberga could not control a back-pass from her defense and Davis jumped on the loose ball and stuffed it into the goal for a 1-0 lead.
Stemberga would not be able to continue in the game due to suffering an injury and Johnson finished out the match for the Warriors in the net.
The Mounties made it 2-0 in the 26th minute on a goal by Michelle Vasquez, leaving ECC down by two going into halftime.
But Sanchez pulled the Warriors within one early in the second half as Claire Mahon diced through the defense and dribbled the ball into the middle of the box. She then passed to Sanchez on the far side and the freshman fired a right-footed shot and tucked it into the far post to make it 2-1 Mt. SAC.
After another Mounties goal, Sanchez curled a free kick just outside the 18-yard box and into the right side of the net past the keeper to make it 3-2 in the 80th minute.
But the Warriors could not muster another shot on target in the final 10 minutes to suffer their second straight loss, the first time they've dropped consecutive games all season.
The Warriors will look to regroup on Tuesday, Oct. 29 when Cerritos visits the ECC Soccer Field for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
