BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College Renegades men's basketball team used a well-rounded offensive performance and lockdown defense to claim a 69-59 victory over the visiting Santa Barbara Vaqueros. With the win, Bakersfield improves to 3-3 on the season.
The Renegades jumped out to an early lead, finishing the first half with a 31-25 advantage. Sophomore Ollie Fell led the charge, finishing with a team-high 15 points and eight rebounds, including a near-perfect 9-for-10 from the free-throw line. Bakersfield's defense dulled Santa Barbara's shooters early, limiting the Vaqueros to just 33.3% shooting in the first half.
In the second half, BC shot an efficient 47.8% from the field and knocking down five of their nine three-pointers. Guard Lendl Henderson scored 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting, including two critical three-pointers that extended the Renegades' lead in the closing minutes.
The Vaqueros tried to keep the team in the game, however, Bakersfield's defense, led by Leviticus Latu and his five assists and two steals, proved too much for the SBCC to overcome.
The Renegades' bench played a crucial role, outscoring Santa Barbara's reserves 35-22. Markell Brooks added 12 points and six rebounds, providing a steady presence in the paint.
BC also capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 16 of their 21 attempts for an impressive 76.2%. In contrast, Santa Barbara struggled going 12-for-21.
With the win, Bakersfield looks to carry momentum into their next matchup as they prepare for the road to LA Pierce on Saturday, November 23rd.
