No. 1 seeded Fullerton College did its job at home Friday getting past No. 16 Antelope Valley College 5-4 in game one of the Southern California Regionals.
The game seemed like it was going very smooth in the Hornet's favor after FC scored 5 unanswered in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, Cassidy Hornung rocked a single to left field scoring Coco Siono. Haley Garcia emptied the bases crushing a triple to right center plating Jordan Elias, Milene Mendoza, and Hornung. Veronica Moore soon got in on the action hitting a hard single up the middle to bring in Haley Garcia.
Down 5-0, Antelope Valley seemed unphased as Cadence Crampton powered a two-run homer to left field that also brought in Kylie Zinn.
Cutting the lead down at 5-2, AVC was not done as the team wrangled two more runs in the seventh. Kylie Zinn hit a deep single to left field scoring two unearned runs. With Fullerton holding a narrow 5-4 lead, the home-run-hitting Cadence Crampton came back up with two outs and hit a deep shot to right field, but Alyssa Garcia was there to collect the final out preserving the Hornet victory.
Macy Brandle pitched a complete game with 6 hits against, 2 earned runs, had 4 walks, and 8 Ks.
At the plate 1B Veronica Moore had a good day going 3 for 3 with 1 RBI. Haley Garcia was 1 for 3 with 3 RBI and a run.
Up Next: No. 1 Fullerton College (37-4 overall) will play game two of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals against No. 16 Antelope Valley (17-24-1) on Saturday May 4th at 12:00 pm. If a third game is needed, it will take place thirty minutes after game two.
