Cats strike late

The Saddleback women's soccer team scored two late goals in beating Santa Ana College, 2-0, on Friday in Santa Ana.  The win lifts the Bobcats into a tie for first place in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) standings.

Saddleback controlled play throughout but was unable to break through against a gritty Santa Ana defense until late in the contest.  The Bobcats outshot the Dons 11-1 in the opening 45 minutes but were unable to tickle the twine.

Things looked very similar in the second half until the final minutes when Saddleback finally ended the silence.  The Bobcats broke through in the final minutes when Jinan Said beat the Santa Ana keeper in the 89th minute with her fifth goal of the season.  It went from bad to worse for Santa Ana in the next minute when Chloe Campagne found the back of the net in the 90th minute for a 2-0 lead.

Saddleback finished with a 20-3 advantage in total shots and an 8-1 lead in shots on goal.

Saddleback is now 7-2-3 overall and 4-0-2 in OEC play.  The Bobcats are currently in a three-way tie with Cypress College and Santiago Canyon College in the conference standings.

Saddleback will host Fullerton College on Tuesday inside the stadium.  The Bobcats and Hornets are scheduled to start at 3:00 PM.
