City Off to 2-0 Start in PCAC for 14th Straight Year

Marley Gonzalez added 13 points and eight rebounds to help the Knights earn their third straight win.
The Knights (10-4, 2-0 PCAC) were coming off an 89-56 road win at Grossmont on Wednesday in the conference opener and they carried the momentum into Friday's game against Mesa (4-7, 0-2 PCAC).
Mesa had the lead early and stayed with the Knights for the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Knights started to pull away over the next four minutes as they put together a 16-0 spurt to take a 17-point lead.
Marshall made all four of his 3-pointers during that run and ended the half with 20 points. The Knights, who shot 60.7% in the first half, went into the locker room holding a 41-22 halftime lead.
The Knights' defense smothered Mesa into a very poor shooting night (31.3%), especially in the second half when the Olympians were held to 7-of-28 (25%) from the floor.
Mesa could never get any closer than 19 points and the Knights went on to earn their second straight blowout victory.
Gonzalez got a several touches in the post and scored nine of his 13 points in the second half.
Logan Huston finished with nine points, two rebounds, and five assists, while Dillon Cubit added eight points and three rebounds off the bench.
The Knights will be off for two weeks during the holiday break and will return to action with a home game on Saturday, Jan. 4 against Imperial Valley at 5 p.m.
