The Saddleback women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 4-0 victory over Fullerton College on Tuesday afternoon inside the stadium. The Bobcats are now in a two-way tie for second place in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play.
Saddleback took the lead in the 20th minute when a Bobcat was taken down inside the box and Saddleback was awarded a penalty kick. Jinan Said made good on the attempt with her sixth goal of the season.
Saddleback added another goal in the 25th minute when Morgen Alvarez took a feed from Aubrey Perez and rattled the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
Saddleback had a 16-1 shot advantage in the opening half, keeping the Hornet defenders busy.
Saddleback emptied out the bench in the second half, playing 26 total players in the game. The Bobcats made it 3-0 in the 65th minute when Said connected for her second of the game off a pass from Alavarez. The Bobcats made it 4-0 in the 83rd minute when Shaughnessy Hannegan had a beautiful header off a corner kick for her first goal of the season.
Saddleback played two goalkeepers, with Cameron Simmons playing the first 45 minutes and Gloria Gomez playing the second half. Simmons improved to 3-1-1 on the season as the two keepers made five saves for the game.
Saddleback is now 8-2-3 overall and 5-0-2 in OEC play following the win. The Bobcats are tied for first place with Cypress College in the standings.
Saddleback will try to extend the unbeaten string on Friday when it travels to Irvine Valley College. The Bobcats and Lasers are scheduled to start at 3:00 PM in Irvine.
