The Saddleback women's soccer team defeated Golden West College, 2-1, on Friday afternoon inside the stadium. The Bobcats ran their unbeaten streak to 11 games with the win.
Saddleback controlled play throughout most of the game until Golden West made things interesting at the end. The Bobcats opened the scoring in the 2nd minute when Emery Simis took a loose ball and planted it into the right side of the net. It was Simis' fifth goal of the season and gave the Bobcats a lead they would never relinquish.
Saddleback made the score 2-0 in the 11th minute after Jinan Said was taken down inside the box. Said connected on the penalty kick for her eighth goal of the season and the Bobcats had a 2-0 lead.
Golden West made things interesting in the final minutes when Clarissa Martinez took a deflection and slipped one into the net in the 88th minute. It proved to be too little too late for the Rustlers.
Saddleback held a 16-11 in total shots and both teams had eight shots on goal. Cameron Simmons picked up her fourth win of the season in goal.
Saddleback is now 11-2-3 overall and 8-0-2 in Orange Empire Conference play. The Bobcats remain alone in first place in conference play with four games remaining in the regular season.
Saddleback did have one streak come to an end on Friday when Golden West scored its lone goal of the game. The Rustler goal snapped a 500:50 shutout streak for the Saddleback defense.
Saddleback will play again on Tuesday when it hosts Santiago Canyon College. The Bobcats and Hawks are scheduled to start at 3:00 PM inside the stadium.
