
Norwalk, Calif. – After a tough loss on Wednesday, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team bounced back in a big way, cruising to a 76-39 victory over Cerritos College on Friday, January 17. With the win, the Mounties improve to 16-4, while the Falcons fall to 5-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mt. SAC opened the game with a quick layup by Taliyah McFerson, but Cerritos answered with a three-pointer from Natalie Poppin. The Falcons briefly regained the lead with two free throws from Lauryn Nakamura, but a jump shot from Frances Potts gave the Mounties the lead for good. Mt. SAC finished the first half with a 23-14 scoring advantage, highlighted by Armani Owens' four free throws and three rebounds.
In the second period, Ryann Riddle stepped up with key contributions on both ends of the court, hitting a three-pointer, scoring from the field, and tallying three steals. With support from Destiny King and Alana Diaz, the Mounties held a commanding 42-23 lead at halftime.
McFerson led the way in the third period, scoring nine points, grabbing three rebounds, dishing out two assists, and adding two steals. Despite a push from Poppin, who added a layup and free throw, they were not able to catch up to the Mounties.
To close out the game for the Mounties, Skylar Henrich and Elizabeth Udeze each added four points, while Loremy Lopez and Janessa Rodriguez also contributed to an impressive 37-point win.
Mt. SAC was truly dominant in multiple areas, converting 22 Cerritos turnovers into 33 points. The Mounties also controlled the boards, grabbing 41 rebounds compared to Cerritos' 23, and outscoring the Falcons 52-10 in the paint. Mt. SAC's bench provided a major boost, contributing 36 points compared to Cerritos' 4.
