SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College women's basketball team earned an emphatic 88-49 win over Oxnard College on Saturday.
The Vaqueros set season highs with 63 rebounds and 29 assists. Jaden Bone led the team with eight assists off the bench, while Kaylee Bosetti added seven.
"After losing to Moorpark, we went back to work in practice on being more efficient and productive with lots of shooting and executing our half-court offenses," head coach Sandrine Krul said. "The theme was looking at the big picture and getting back to our SBCC basketball motto: defensive intensity leads to our offensive freedom, and that's good, fun basketball."
Kaylee Lawson led the Vaqueros with 22 points, including four 3-pointers, five rebounds and three assists. Amarisse Camargo recorded a game-high 11 rebounds along with eight points. Isis Poteet earned her eighth double-double of the season with 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals.
"This team is coachable and knows how to learn after a loss," Krul said. "I was very proud of them tonight for getting back to playing for each other and not being myopic, but being intentional for 40 minutes."
The Vaqueros jumped out to a 39-22 lead at halftime. While they continued to add to their lead, the Oxnard College Condors remained resilient and challenged Santa Barbara at both ends of the floor.
"Oxnard plays hard; they never quit, which my team knew was going to happen from our film sessions," Krul said.
Santa Barbara plays again on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Ventura College.
