GOT THE W AGAINST GW

The Hornets of Fullerton College hosted Golden West College on Wednesday and surged past the Rustlers 14-8.

Fullerton earned it first Orange Empire Conference victory by playing tough defense, while hitting critical shots on breakaways. The first quarter was a battle as both teams match one another shot for shot. GWC's Makena Gray fired off three straight goals, but FC answered back with goals by Macayle Franco and Kirsten Grammer. By the end of the quarter the Rustlers still owned a 4-3 lead.

The second quarter was all Hornets as Macayle Franco put the team on her back tossing in three straight goals for a 7-4 advantage by halftime. 

Moncerath Maldonado chipped in with two goals in the third, which gave Fullerton some breathing room with a 10-7 lead.

In the fourth quarter the Rustlers tried to get back in the game, but the Hornets ran out the clock holding on tight for the conference win.

Macayle Franco led the way for Fullerton with 7 goals, while Moncerath Maldonado added 3 with 2 assists. Payton Baughman handed out 3 assists, while Kaylee Rojas added 5 steals. FC goalie Brisela Robinson had 3 saves.

Up Next: The Hornets (5-11 overall, 1-3 OEC) will play at the Ventura College Tournament October 11-12. Fullerton will open with Ventura on Friday at 5:00 pm and then turn around and play Santa Barbara City at 6:00 pm. On Saturday, FC takes on Sierra at 2:15 pm and Merced at 4:45 pm.
