BASEBALL: A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

BASEBALL: A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

All the signs pointed in the right direction beginning with Fullerton College President Dr. Rajen Vurdien's dazzling first-pitch throw over home plate.

The Rams scored an early run in the first inning, but FC scored two runs when it was their turn. Victor Valley scored two more runs in the 2nd inning, and FC kept their lead countering with a solo run in the bottom of the 2nd.

Then Fullerton broke it open in the 3rd inning scoring two runs on a triple by 3B Trent Hammond knocking in DH Oscar Heredia. Hammond was able to make it home on a throwing error to third. 1B Riley Roberts was brought home when RF Shane Carrier hit into a 6-3 putout. Roberts continued to round into third where the Rams made an error allowing the Hornet to continue to home plate.

Victor Valley made a push in the top of the 6th getting within a run of Fullerton (7-6), but FC's offense proved too much as they separated themselves their very next at-bat scoring two runs on another triple by Hammond scoring DH Jimmy Short and SS Justin Row.

FC starting pitcher Dylan Prohoroff (1-0) earned the win going 5 innings allowing 3 earned runs and striking out 6 batters.

Offensively, Fullerton's Hammond had a solid day getting on base four times (2 triples/walked twice) with 4 RBI, and 3 runs. RF came off the bench going 2-2 with 3 RBI and catcher Julio Rivera also came in to help the Hornets going 2-2 with 2 RBI.

Up Next: The Hornets (1-0) will host San Diego Mesa this Saturday, January 31st. Game time is at 12:00 pm.
