Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Softball Team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, February 1, sweeping San Diego Mesa in a doubleheader with impressive victories of 10-2 and 12-3. Both games concluded in the fifth inning due to the "run rule," as the Mounties built insurmountable leads. With these wins, Mt. SAC improves to 3-2 on the season, while San Diego Mesa falls to 6-2, suffering both losses at the hands of the Mounties.

Game 1: Mt. SAC 10, San Diego Mesa 2

San Diego Mesa struck first in the opening inning with an RBI double to right field from Faith Balestreri, giving the Olympians a 1-0 lead. The Mounties quickly responded in the second inning when Amanda Porterfield's double to right field brought home Morgan Kneubuhler, tying the game at 1-1.

The Olympians briefly reclaimed the lead in the third with a hit from Elijah Medina, but Mt. SAC answered right back. Sam Orozco's triple evened the score before Katie Griego's RBI single pushed the Mounties ahead 3-2.

From there, Mt. SAC took control. Kayden Connaty launched a solo home run in the fourth inning, setting the stage for an explosive fifth. A series of clutch hits—including a single from Vyanca Clark, a double from Connaty, and triples from Porterfield and Orozco—led to a six-run surge, sealing the 10-2 victory via the run rule, which ends a game when a team leads by at least eight runs after five innings.

Connaty also starred on the mound, pitching all five innings for the Mounties. She faced 23 batters, allowing just three hits and two earned runs while striking out five.

The Mounties return to action on Wednesday, February 5, when they host Cypress College at 2:00 PM. Tickets are available on-site for $5.
