HORNETS TAKE DOWN CYPRESS

After dealing with the heavy rains the past few days, the No. 11 in state Hornets finally got back on the field and made it count on Friday knocking off No. 4 Cypress College 4-1.

Fullerton handed the Chargers their first Orange Empire Conference loss of the season locking both teams in a tie for first place. FC's only conference loss came against Cypress on March 1st. The two teams will face off one more time on April 19th at Cypress for what could be the OEC title game.

Cypress did not hesitate getting on the board in the top of the first when leadoff batter Emily Rush crushed the third pitch of the game over the left field fence for a solo homerun. That would be the only run of the Chargers would score as FC went on to play some outstanding defense.

Alendy Aguilar pulled the momentum in Fullerton's direction in the second inning ripping the ball to the right field corner for a standup triple scoring Jocelyn Jauregui. Olivia Nunez came in to pinch hit and made it count bringing Aguilar in on a groundout to second.

Up 2-0 in the fifth inning, FC added two more insurance runs on Jocelyn Jauregui's single to the left side plating Haley PerezAlendy Aguilar hurt the Chargers again doubling down the left field line scoring Karleigh Bennington.

FC starter Allyson Fuentes (9-3) pitched her heart out throwing a complete game with 6 hits against, 1 earned run, had 2 walks, and 3 K's.

Up Next: The Hornets get right back at it again tomorrow (Saturday, Mark 25th) when they travel to Santa Ana College for another OEC game. The first pitch goes out at 10:00 am.
